What this site does
Europe Nature Maps (wafle.de) is a static website of visitor maps for European national parks. It is a non-commercial hobby. There are no accounts, no contact form, no newsletter, no shop, no ads, and no analytics. The pages do not set cookies.
Hosting and server logs
The site is hosted by Vercel Inc., 440 N Barranca Avenue #4133, Covina, CA 91723, USA. When you open a page, Vercel processes the connection data needed to deliver it and to keep the service running. Vercel’s own privacy notice describes that data as including the IP address, an approximate region derived from it (city and country, not a precise location), the date and time, the requested address, and technical details of the request such as the user agent. If your browser sends a referrer, that previous address can also appear in a server log.
The operator of this site does not keep a separate log database and does not use visits for statistics, profiles, or advertising. Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights are not enabled. The pages load no analytics or advertising scripts.
The legal basis for publishing the site through a host is Article 6 (1)(f) GDPR: the legitimate interest in running the site securely. Under Vercel’sData Processing Addendum, Vercel may act as an independent controller for certain data generated by operating the service, including connection logs. That processing can take place in the United States. Vercel describes its safeguards in itsprivacy notice and in that addendum. This policy does not state a retention period of the operator’s own, because the operator does not keep a separate copy of those logs. Retention at the host follows the host’s notice.
Cookies
This website does not set cookies. It does not use consent, analytics, or marketing cookies, and it does not show a cookie banner, because it stores nothing of that kind.
Fonts
Figtree, Fraunces, and IBM Plex Sans are stored on this website (under /fonts/). The browser loads them from wafle.de. The pages do not contact fonts.googleapis.com or fonts.gstatic.com.
Maps and geographic data
The maps are finished SVG files. Opening or downloading a map does not contact OpenStreetMap, the Overpass API, or the elevation-tile servers.
- Lines, areas, trails, water, places, and park boundaries come from OpenStreetMap contributors under theOpen Database License (ODbL). The data is read through the Overpass API when a map is generated, then published as a drawing. The required credit is© OpenStreetMap contributors.
- Hillshade is embedded in the SVG. It is built fromMapzen Terrain Tiles on AWS (Terrarium tiles). For Europe those heights are chiefly Copernicus EU-DEM. The tile set also includes SRTM, GMTED2010, and ETOPO1. Tilezen’sattribution notelists the other regional elevation models in the global set. Visitors do not download those tiles.
- Amenity pictographs come from theU.S. National Park Service Symbol Libraryand are in the public domain. They are embedded in the SVG files.
- A few Berchtesgaden viewpoints in the curated list cite an OpenStreetMap node and, as a cross-check, a public Outdooractive or gipfelbuch.online page. One coordinate (Kehlsteinhaus) is noted as checked against an Outdooractive page. Those sites are not contacted when you view the map. The drawn trails and areas are from OpenStreetMap.
If you write to support@wafle.de, your address and the message are read in order to reply. The website does not store the message, because there is no form. The legal basis is Article 6 (1)(b) GDPR where the message is a request to the operator, and otherwise Article 6 (1)(f) GDPR. Correspondence is not used for advertising and is kept only as long as it is needed to answer, unless a legal duty requires longer.
Sharing
The operator does not sell personal data and does not pass it on for advertising. The technical recipients are the host, Vercel, when it delivers the pages, and the mailbox for support@wafle.de if you write there.
Your rights
Where the statutory conditions are met, you can ask the controller for:
- access (Article 15 GDPR)
- rectification (Article 16 GDPR)
- erasure (Article 17 GDPR)
- restriction (Article 18 GDPR)
- portability (Article 20 GDPR)
- objection to processing based on Article 6 (1)(f) GDPR (Article 21 GDPR)
You may lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (Article 77 GDPR), in particular where you live or where the operator is established. The German Federal Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information publishes which state authority covers which federal state. The operator is established in Rosenheim, Bavaria.
You do not have to provide personal data to read the pages. Sending email is voluntary.
